I am not a hero, yet I am peerless in vision.
I am a villain by nature, infinitely arrogant!
Xie Wendong! A young man of only eighteen years old, the Wendong Association he founded in City J rose rapidly within just three years. It successively eliminated several large gangs, and merged some other small gangs as well as the Qing Gang, which was once one of the three major gangs. It suddenly became the largest gang in the underworld of City J. The black post of the Wendong Association, also known as the Blood Killing, struck fear into the hearts of people in the region. None of those who received the post could survive.
In August 1998, it was the time for H University to start the new semester. Xie Wendong was five days late because of matters related to the gang.
At noon on the 19th, Xie Wendong stood alone in front of H Station. Looking at the crowded crowd, the vehicles coming and going, and the towering buildings, a surge of excitement welled up in his heart. This was the place where he was going to stay for four years. Everything was so unfamiliar, yet everything also felt familiar. Just like City J, it was a prosperous desert. Who knew who would be the king here four years later?!
Xie Wendong took a taxi to H University. After entering the campus and taking a stroll around, to Xie Wendong's surprise, the school could be this big. He didn't know how many times larger it was compared to No.1 Middle School where he used to study.
In the afternoon, after asking around for nearly an hour, Xie Wendong finally found the instructor of his class in the main building of the school. It was an old man with gray hair, of medium build, and his surname was Fu.
"You're Xie Wendong. Why are you only coming now? The semester has already started for five days!" The instructor looked at Xie Wendong with dissatisfaction.
Xie Wendong at the age of eighteen didn't change much from before, except that he had grown a bit taller and could barely reach about 1.75 meters. This was only a medium to low height in Northeast China. His appearance remained the same. He couldn't be called handsome, but rather delicate and good-looking. The most distinctive feature was his narrow and long eyes, through which streamers of light would flash from time to time. Men would say that it was a cold light, and most women would say that it was an electric light.
Xie Wendong naturally had a charming temperament. There was no need for him to deliberately show it. It was naturally revealed in every move he made.
After hearing the instructor's words, Xie Wendong just said indifferently, "There were some family matters that needed to be dealt with. Please forgive me, teacher!"
The instructor didn't say anything more. Everyone knew that adult education had loose management. There were many students like him who hadn't come even five days after the semester started. The instructor asked Xie Wendong to pay the tuition and miscellaneous fees, and it took another hour to complete all kinds of formalities. Then the instructor led Xie Wendong to the student dormitory.
The two of them talked as they walked along the way. The instructor was very curious why Xie Wendong, since he had been admitted to the Law School, had come to the adult education department instead. Xie Wendong just casually brushed it aside, saying that it was the same everywhere, and that he preferred the free atmosphere of adult education. The instructor shook his head, indicating that he didn't understand.
After arriving at the student dormitory, the instructor led Xie Wendong to find a dormitory room that only had six people living in it (the full capacity was eight people). After giving a brief explanation to the people inside, he left. There were already six people living in the dormitory. There was only an upper bunk by the window that was vacant, and there was another bunk piled with sundries. Xie Wendong looked at the six people in the room, smiled, and walked towards the upper bunk by the window.
The person living in the lower bunk of his held a water cup and was the first to say, "What's your name? I'm Zhang Tiesheng, from City J. How about you?"
Oh, there was a fellow townsman! Xie Wendong looked at this person. He wore big glasses and had a center part hairstyle. But he was quite handsome. Xie Wendong nodded and said, "I'm also from City J. My name is Xie Wendong!"
"Oh, Xie Wendong! What? You're Xie Wendong??" Zhang Tiesheng didn't react at first. Suddenly, he remembered the pride of the middle school students in City J, and the person who dominated the underworld in City J was also named Xie Wendong. He looked at him in surprise and secretly wondered if they could be the same person??! "You're that legendary figure in high school — Xie Wendong?!"
Xie Wendong didn't want to cause unnecessary trouble, so he said, "Hehe! I just have the same name as him, but I'm not the same person!"
Zhang Tiesheng let out a long sigh and said a bit disappointedly, "I thought so... How could Xie Wendong come here!" Seeing Xie Wendong's smiling eyes, he quickly added, "I didn't mean you. I was talking about that Xie Wendong who is the boss!"
The other five people found what Zhang Tiesheng said interesting and gathered around to ask, "Boss, tell us about it. Who is this Xie Wendong who is the boss? Tell us!"
Zhang Tiesheng laughed heartily, took a sip of water, and began to tell the legendary deeds of Xie Wendong. Xie Wendong himself added a few words appropriately on the side. Since they were all young people, they quickly got familiar with each other through chatting. The other five people also introduced themselves to Xie Wendong, and they ranked themselves according to their ages.
The eldest was Zhang Tiesheng, Xie Wendong's fellow townsman with big glasses; the second was Ma Wenheng, who was short and chubby, somewhat resembling Li Shuang; the third was Zhang Xuesong, who had a crew cut, was 1.78 meters tall, from County W, and was also a fighting expert in high school there; the fourth was Bai Minghao, from City SH, about the same height as the third, but much fatter; the fifth was Cai Wei, from City M, 1.82 meters tall, a typical big guy from Northeast China; the sixth was Wang Qinghui, from City S, the place where Xie Wendong got the shotgun. Xie Wendong was the youngest and ranked seventh.
Everyone was very enthusiastic. Seeing that Xie Wendong didn't bring many things, they dragged him out to buy daily necessities. Opposite H University, there were two large shopping malls, and there were countless small stalls beside them. After being introduced by the six people, Xie Wendong bought a pile of things, big and small. After walking around the mall, he soon spent more than 500 yuan. Xie Wendong secretly felt pained. This wasn't the gang's money, but the money his father gave him before he left.
By the time everything was bought, it was almost evening. The fourth suggested that everyone go to a restaurant for a meal. After all, it was the first day they met Xie Wendong, and they were going to spend four years together. The quickest way to build up their relationship was at the dining table.
Xie Wendong had no objection and said, "I'm the last one to come. I'll treat you to this meal!"
After hearing this, everyone cheered. They quickly helped to send the things Xie Wendong bought back to the dormitory, and then they went in a mighty procession to the restaurant at the side gate of H University. The things here weren't cheap, but they weren't too expensive either. Xie Wendong thought it was quite a good deal. The seven of them drank a case of beer, and they couldn't remember how much draft beer they drank. Later, when they went back to school, they were all staggering and unsteady on their feet. Most importantly, after this meal, they all became good friends.
The courses in adult education were few. There were only two to four classes a day. Xie Wendong had just arrived and wasn't very familiar with the environment yet, so he planned to live a stable life for a few days.
Early the next morning, when everyone was still in their dreams, the eldest woke up first. He looked at his watch and saw that it was already seven o'clock. He quickly got out of bed and shouted, "It's time. Get up quickly! It's time for class!"
Hearing the harsh noise, everyone turned over, covered themselves with the quilt, and continued to sleep soundly. The eldest thought to himself, this is what you forced me to do! Hehe, he smiled, holding an iron basin (the fourth's) in one hand and a shoe brush in the other.
"Clang! Clang clang!!..." The sound of the broken basin rang out. The eldest walked back and forth in the dormitory, shouting at the top of his voice, "Get up, get up!"
"Damn it!" Xie Wendong sat up with his hair in a mess. He had drunk too much the night before, and now he still had a dull headache. He looked blankly at the eldest who was dancing around below. Sigh! After five minutes, Xie Wendong finally woke up. He let out a sigh and then got out of bed, washed up, and dressed as quickly as possible. The others also surrendered and got up under this noise.
After having breakfast, everyone came to the classroom. There were no less than a hundred people sitting inside. The seats could be taken randomly. Xie Wendong and the others found a row of seats at the back and sat down. After the class bell rang, the teacher coughed and began to teach.
This class was Civil Law. The teacher was a young man not very old. He taught very humorously. He was a lawyer himself, and when he taught the legal provisions, he added many interesting examples, making the rigid things much more vivid. Of course, his income for one class was also quite high, 100 yuan RMB!
After the class started, the fourth kept looking around to the front. The third saw this and asked curiously, "Fourth, what are you looking for? Is there a treasure there..."
"Damn it, you're so stupid. I'm checking if there are any pretty girls in our class!"
"Oh! Can you tell if someone is good-looking just by looking at the back?"
"That depends on one's taste. I don't know about you, but I'm confident in my taste. I will never miss 'a fish'!"
After a while, the fourth pointed to the front and said in a low voice, "Look, look quickly! What do you think of that girl in the third row from the front?? Just by looking at the back, you can tell she's a beauty! Hehe!"
Everyone looked in the direction he pointed, and they all nodded. Xie Wendong thought it was funny and looked over. The fourth was pointing at a girl wearing white clothes. Although they couldn't see her front face, her long, black, and smooth hair could really make people daydream.
The third scratched his head, tore off a page from his notebook, crumpled it into a ball, and threw it in the direction of the girl. The paper ball drew an arc in the air and hit the back of the girl's head. The girl touched her hair and turned around. Everyone stared at her intently. When they saw the girl turn around, they were all stunned for a moment and quickly put their heads on the table. Only Xie Wendong still raised his head. When he saw the girl turn around and look in his direction, he smiled and nodded. But he received a big roll of the eyes from the girl, who said in a low voice, "Shameless!"
Since Xie Wendong started practicing Tai Chi, his temper had changed a lot; or rather, he had become more cultivated. Although he was not happy in his heart, the expression on his face remained the same. To put it bluntly, he had become more insidious with a smile.
The girl's voice wasn't loud, but the people next to Xie Wendong could hear it clearly and they covered their mouths and secretly laughed.
The third pulled down Xie Wendong's clothes and said with a laugh, "Damn it, I really admire you. The fourth's taste is really amazing, haha~!" It turned out that the girl was really "patriotic" in appearance, so much so that the third couldn't bear to look at her a second time.
The fourth muttered in a low voice, "Damn it, it really lives up to that saying. Looking at her from the back makes you want to commit a crime, looking at her from the side makes you want to turn back, and looking at her from the front makes you want to defend yourself legally!"
After hearing the fourth's words, everyone, including Xie Wendong, burst into laughter. Xie Wendong secretly laughed. It seemed that he was going to start an interesting college life.
